Zeiss-Ikon

Zeiss-Ikon was founded in 1926 by the merger of several different German companies – Zeiss (Jena), Contessa-Nettel, Ernemann, Goerz and Ica. Many of these companies’ individual cameras were continued under the Zeiss-Ikon brand. And their product catalog was consequently quite massive. For example, in a particular year, 104 different camera models could be found, each with an average of three separate formats and more than three lens/shutter combinations per said format. So, we’re talking about over 900 models might be available in that single year. And we thought Kodak was proliferate with their cameras! Although Zeiss products – mostly optics – are still made today, camera production ceased in 1972.
