Pentax Super Program (Super A)

1983

The Super Program – also known internationally as the Super A – was released in 1983. This model introduced a new shutter-priority exposure mode for Pentax cameras. In order to allow the camera to automatically control f/stops, a new lens design was required: Pentax SMC-A.

The Super Program had multi-mode exposure including Program, Aperture-priority, Shutter-priority and Manual. In manual mode, the shutter speeds are selectable using two rocker switches beside the mode selector dial – similar to the controls on the ME Super.

It should be noted that the older SMC-M lenses can be used on the camera, but will prohibit the use of shutter-priority and programmed AE modes.
