Minolta/Celtic MC Lenses

Minolta’s Celtic line of lenses offered the most popular focal lengths in prices that were easier on the budget due to differences in construction. As with the Nikon “E-Series” lenses, these were produced to compete with the many third-party lenses that flooded the market.

I’ve read numerous times that the Celtic lenses were coated differently than their Rokkor counterparts. I’ve also read just the opposite. What I do know is that Minolta was always improving the coatings on their lenses, and they did so without a lot of fanfare. So, it’s a definite possibility that they did the same with the Celtic line.

The lenses listed here don’t represent the total Celtic line over the years. This info is taken from one of Minolta’s sales brochures from the mid-70s – “A Guide to the Minolta SLR System of Creative Photography”. According to that publication, “Minolta/Celtic lenses offer computer design and traditionally fine Minolta quality at popular prices. These lenses are made of the finest optical glass in the most used wide-angle and telephoto focal lengths to suit the usual needs of most photographers.”
